Josh Marcuse is the director of strategic initiatives for Google Public Sector. He also serves as the lead for responsible AI and serves on the advisory board of Capital G, Alphabet's independent growth fund. He joined Google in 2020 and has led teams in public sector strategy and innovation and business development, for the United States and internationally. He is a senior associate at the Center for Strategic and International Studies. Previously, Josh served as executive director of the Defense Innovation Board, a government group of distinguished leaders focused on bringing technological and cultural innovations of Silicon Valley to the Department of Defense (DOD). Josh served as the innovation adviser to the DOD chief technology officer and also held roles in the Office of the Secretary of Defense (OSD) for Policy, Personnel & Readiness and the Office of the Chief Management Officer. Prior to DOD, Josh worked at the Center for Strategic and International Studies, Booz Allen Hamilton, and the Council on Foreign Relations. Josh is the founder or cofounder of three nonprofits: Globally, Young Professionals in Foreign Policy, and the Federal Innovator Network. He is an adviser or board member to several nonprofits, including Tech Talent Project, Special Competitive Studies Project, DayOne Project, and Schmidt Futures, and several defense start-ups and investment firms, including the Defense Advisory Board of Bessemer Venture Partners.
