The Future of AGOA: Building American Prosperity Through African Partnership
Brought to you by
For more than two decades, the African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA) served as the cornerstone of U.S.–Africa trade policy, supporting American jobs, fostering economic growth across Africa, and helping diversify global supply chains. With AGOA’s recent extension through December 31, 2026, Congress faces a pivotal opportunity to modernize it in ways that better reflect today’s economic, strategic, and geopolitical realities.
As lawmakers consider next steps, please join the CSIS Africa Program on Tuesday, March 3, 2026, from 09:00 to 10:45 a.m. for a fireside chat on the future of AGOA, featuring Ranking Member of the Senate Finance Subcommittee on Trade, Customs, and Global Competitiveness Senator Reverend Raphael Warnock (D-GA) and Chairman of the Ways and Means Subcommittee on Trade Representative Adrian Smith (R-NE).
The event will include keynote remarks and a fireside chat with the Members of Congress, followed by a panel discussion with leading experts. Together, the dialogue will explore bipartisan pathways to examine how a modernized trade framework could deepen U.S.–Africa economic ties, strengthen supply chain resilience, and position the United States and African states to compete more effectively in an increasingly contested global economy.
In-person attendance is limited. To reserve a spot, please RSVP by emailing SVakharia@csis.org.
This event is made possible through general support to CSIS.
