GAVI Moving Forward

Monday, June 27, 2011 7:30 pm - 9:00 pm
Center for Strategic and International Studies 1800 K Street, NW Washington DC, 20006

On June 13, 2011 the GAVI Alliance convened its inaugural pledging conference in London and succeeded in raising a record $4.3 billion. At the meeting, the U.S. announced its first ever multi-year commitment totaling $450 million. These new pledges will support a dramatic expansion of vaccine delivery in GAVI eligible countries. What challenges lie ahead in terms of managing these increased resources and continuing to expand vaccine coverage in an increasingly complex context? What makes GAVI a smart investment for its donors? How does GAVI support the goals of the U.S. Global Health Initiative?

Panelists will include: U.S. delegation member Amie Batson, USAID Deputy Assistant Administrator for Global Health; Joelle Tanguy, Managing Director of External Relations for GAVI; Nicole Bates, Senior Program Officer for the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation; and Claire Moran, Development Counsellor at the British Embassy.
