How to Deal with Venezuela's Mafia State post-January 10th
Please join CSIS Americas for an armchair discussion about the international community’s policy options in responding to Venezuela's mafia state. Despite nearly 50 countries challenging the results of the Venezuelan presidential elections held in 2018, given that the elections were widely considered to be unfree and unfair, Nicolas Maduro is set to be sworn in. This leaves open the possibility to challenge Maduro’s right to represent the Venezuelan government and its people by these countries beginning on January 10, 2019 -- the date the new presidential period begins.
During this event, our speakers will discuss the political, diplomatic and legal implications post-January 10th and how the international community should respond. Presentations made by the experts will be followed by a moderated discussion with CSIS Americas Associate Director and Venezuela expert Moises Rendon.
