Managing Risk While Achieving Innovation: Lessons from the Collaborative Combat Aircraft with Hon. Andrew P. Hunter
Brought to you by
The U.S. DOD is in the business of managing risks, notably making tradeoffs between force size, readiness, and technological advancement as well as the traditional acquisition trifecta of cost, schedule, and budget. The U.S. Air Force has been at the forefront of managing these risks, as it seeks to maintain a qualitative edge over the U.S.'s pacing threat, leverage contributions from allies and partners, create a more resilient industrial base, and adapt to the growing importance of uncrewed systems and mass demonstrated in the war in Ukraine. The Air Force intends to buy over a thousand of the uncrewed Collaborative Combat Aircraft (CCA) and has brought in non-traditional vendors and invested in open architectures to help achieve that goal. The CSIS Defense-Industrial Initiatives Group (DIIG) welcomes the Assistant Secretary of the Air Force for Acquisition, Technology, and Logistics the Honorable Andrew P. Hunter for a discussion on the CCA, the industrial base, and the way the Air Force manages risks to meet current and future needs.
This virtual event is made possible through general support to CSIS.
