The CSIS Energy Security and Climate Change Program is pleased to host Nick Elliot, Senior Director of Power at the White House National Energy Dominance Council, for a conversation on the future of the U.S. electricity system. Joseph Majkut, director of the CSIS Energy Security and Climate Change Program, will moderate the discussion.
As electricity demand accelerates and the United States seeks to expand advanced manufacturing, artificial intelligence, and other strategic industries, the power sector faces growing pressure to add generation and infrastructure quickly while maintaining reliability and affordability. Rapid load growth is raising important questions about resource adequacy, how the costs of new infrastructure should be allocated, and how large new customers can connect to the grid without imposing undue costs on existing ratepayers.
The conversation will explore how the administration is approaching these challenges as part of its broader energy dominance agenda, including efforts to accelerate power delivery for large loads, reform grid planning and cost allocation, and protect ratepayers. The discussion will also consider how PJM and other electricity markets, the role of hybrid connectivity and grid-enhancing technologies, and how permitting and transmission policy can support faster infrastructure development, economic growth, and U.S. strategic interests.
