Quality Education for Security and Economic Growth
Brought to you by
Join the CSIS Project on Prosperity and Development for a discussion on the role that education plays as an enabler for national security and the stability of countries. This event will be informed by the recently published CSIS policy brief entitled Investing in Quality Education for Development, Peace, and Stability.
Competing global crises such as the Covid-19 pandemic, climate change, inflation, increased country debt, and Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine have overshadowed investment in quality education. Knowledge is a global public good, but it is easily forgotten when compared to more pressing challenges. As such, the arguments that proponents of global education have put forward in the past decades to advance education likely will not have the same impact in the future. In order to reengage the global community, a new narrative is needed to make the case for the continued investment in quality education. By tying education to broader themes of national security and stability, the global education agenda can attract champions outside traditional development circles.
This event is made possible through a partnership with the Global Partnership for Education (GPE).
