AILA International Fellowship
Preparing aspiring leaders for effective and meaningful leadership in today’s world.
Overview
The AILA International Fellowship immerses global leaders in an intensive and exciting week of conversations with CSIS experts, experiential leadership and communication workshops, and deep connection. It’s a transformational experience that gives participants the tools and agile mindset to enact innovative solutions to the challenges of a complex and volatile global environment.
Each AIF cohort brings together impressive professionals in the corporate, nonprofit, government, and military arenas from across the U.S. and around the globe to leverage their different perspectives and professional experiences. Together, they address the intellectual, ethical, cultural, and policy questions that are central to effective leadership. Fellows leave re-energized, with a renewed sense of purpose and an amplified ability to lead change.
Since 2003, CSIS has welcomed over 400 AILA International Fellows from 86 countries, creating a vibrant and supportive network of alumni who continue to engage with one another on contemporary issues and leadership strategies.
Curriculum
Participants learn with the CSIS network of world-class scholars, practitioners, and coaches. The curriculum includes:
- Experiential exercises that challenge assumptions about leadership
- Communication workshops that hone skills in compelling presentation, core messaging, storytelling, and negotiation
- Focus on values-centered approaches to global issues
- Seminars on global policy challenges and opportunities
- Case studies of real-world policy dilemmas
- Collaborative design of innovative solutions to complex problems
Eligibility
CSIS seeks an accomplished cohort of professionals with wide-ranging backgrounds to co-create a vibrant learning experience. Years of experience are less important than depth of commitment—AIF Fellows have ranged from break-out entrepreneurs in their late 20s to seasoned experts retiring from one successful career to begin new ventures. The selection committee will consider candidates’ leadership experience and potential, as well as demonstrated interest in the four program pillars: global issues, leadership, communication, and values-based solution-building. Proficiency in English is obligatory, as the program requires active engagement in discussions and activities.
