Shivani Vakharia is the acting director for Congressional and Government Affairs at the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS). Prior to CSIS, she served as a congressional affairs officer at the National Endowment for Democracy (NED), a nonprofit grant-making organization, where she focused on budget and appropriations and connecting civil society to Congress and the executive branch on issues related to human rights, independent media, and countering malign influence. She also worked for a senior appropriator in the U.S. House of Representatives as a foreign policy legislative assistant, managing funding requests to Congress under the purview of the U.S. Department of State. Shivani holds an MA in international affairs with a concentration in international economic relations from American University and a BA in international affairs, political science, and Spanish from the University of Georgia.
