Transforming European Defense Report Launch

June 26, 2023 • 2:00 – 3:00 pm EDT

European defense is in a decrepit state. While the war in Ukraine has shifted the continent's focus back onto defense, questions remain about the deeply fragmented and disorganized manner in which Europeans generate their forces. A new report by the CSIS Europe, Russia, and Eurasia program calls for a critical role for the European Union to play in coordinating and integrating European defense efforts. You can read the report here

Please join the CSIS Europe, Russia, and Eurasia Program on 6/26 at 2 p.m. EDT for a discussion with Max Bergmann, Sean Monaghan, and Marie Jourdain, moderated by Donatienne Ruy on the state of European defense following the war in Ukraine.

Max Bergmann is the Director of the Stuart Center and the Europe, Russia, and Eurasia Program at CSIS. Marie Jourdain is a visiting fellow at the Atlantic Council’s Europe Center, prior to which she worked for the French Ministry of Defense where she focused on U.S. defense policy with Europe and U.S.-France strategic defense talks. Sean Monaghan is a visiting fellow in the Europe, Russia, and Eurasia Program at CSIS, where he focuses on NATO, European security, and defense.

This event is made possible through general support to CSIS.
