Our Mission

With an unprecedented number of humanitarian crises around the world, the Humanitarian Agenda is committed to inform policy solutions to novel humanitarian challenges through expert dialogue and analysis and to developing and advancing avenues for improving humanitarian response and increasing humanitarian access.

Our main priorities are:

  1. Developing and advancing avenues for increasing humanitarian access to suffering populations—particularly in armed conflict.
  2. Unpacking the challenges at the intersection of counterterrorism and humanitarian action and offering solutions.
  3. Integrating humanitarian considerations more effectively into U.S. foreign policy and national security decision-making.

The Humanitarian Agenda leverages the expertise and research of a variety of CSIS programs. This work is a part of a unique partnership between CSIS and the U.S. Agency for International Development’s Bureau for Humanitarian Assistance.

The Humanitarian Agenda acknowledges Washington D.C. is the traditional territory of Nacotchtank, Anacostan, and Piscataway people. The Humanitarian Agenda recognizes and takes inspiration from this land and history.
